Pointless...

You know what I don't get? I don't get people who shower BEFORE they run. It makes no sense to me. I'll be trudging around the trail at the park and someone will pass me... then I'll get this waft of Irish Spring. You know the smell -- all fresh and clean -- the sort of smell that only stays with you for a little while after you shower. And I think, WTF? Why bother? It's 90 degrees, you're on your 4th mile, and you're going to stank like my old gym locker when you're done... then you'll have to shower all over again before anyone will come near you. What's the point?

When I pass someone and my scent wafts back to them, I bet they think, Oh Holy Mother of God, what did she roll in?!

I've probably met the man who shoulda/coulda/woulda been the love of my life at the park... but he took one whiff and thought, 'No way in Hell.' 'Cause that's my life.

Wait. There are people who shower before they run? Who are they and what's wrong with them? And I thought I had problems..

Okay, so since you wish some of us would post rather than email you...I had to respond to this as you know I'm one of these people. I take no less than 2 showers a day, if not 3. It's not so much about being clean, though I've got this horrible phobia about stinking just a little, even when I work out and its okay to be sweaty and stinky, I DON'T want to be one of those stinky people. It's more about waking up. I'm too groggy in the morning to respond to someone if my name is called, let alone to put a 100% into a work out. What is the use of working out if you don't give 100%. So I shower and it wakes me up and then an hour later I go workout and shower again. Then of course sometimes later that night I shower again if its hot and muggy out as I can't stand to be sweaty and sticky. Personal preference I guess. I would rather err on the side of smelling fresh than nasty HA

OK, Cari, you know I love you, right? Here's the deal with you working out and being one of those 'stinky people' (and yes, I know you mean me)... you work out IN YOUR HOUSE... and most days, in the afternoon, not right when you wake up, right? Which means that the ONLY one who is going to smell you is THE DOG (and she probably likes that smell). Logic = flawed. So there ;).

No no..I need to respond back...I workout on Sat and Sun morning within an hour of waking up (and weather permitting I walk/run the paths at the school), and any days that I'm off during the week, I workout when I wake up. So yeah most of the time its in the afternoon, but when I do work out in the morning, its within an hour of waking up/showering. But of course we know my logic is flawed 99% of the time anyway :) As for Indy, she actually prefers me cleaner than stinkier, she loves to lick the lotion off my legs, so I sort of shower for her too LOL

LOL... for as alike as we are, we are SO different. I would never shower for the dog (I figure he doesn't do it for me).

LOL. I've got to keep her happy, otherwise she will eat more carpet or sheetrock. Whatever works :)

is it the same with showering before sex?

Cuz I know that I'm a sweaty mes after.

Pointless advice please......

As I'm sure you're aware, TC, showering before sex, while pointless in the 'sweaty mess' context, is IMPERATIVE in the 'You're not gettin' any 'til you smell better!' context.

Oh you are sooo funny! My husband is a chonic showerer. I never understood it either. Just for the record ~ I do not shower before my morning walks ... ever. The dog is more interrested in other's poop than what I smell like on the walk. Unconditional love it where its at.

Let me just jump in here with something that hasn't been addressed yet: Women don't stink.

At least, not "Oh I'm so sweaty" stink-- not bathing for weeks at a time will make anyone smell unpleasant. But I'm always amused by women's obsession with not stinking when there's nothing they can do (barring introducing stinky foreign substances) within the span of one or even two days that will actually make them smell bad.

So with the point of this post completely negated (sorry, but it had to be done), I'll just suggest a rinse before exercising, along with some perfume or something, then the full shower afterwards.
