The Gratitude Attitude

I feel that I should really post some sort of an 'I'm thankful' bit today, full of sweetness and light... but I'm sitting here, dreading the arrival of Lucifer and his faithful minion (aka my brother and sister-in-law), and I have to admit, I'm feeling less-than-sweetness-and-light-filled. Plus, I sort of don't like the idea of Thanksgiving anyway. I know, I know. I don't like Christmas either (but that's another post entirely). No, I just think we ought to be grateful for what we've got all the time and setting aside just one day a year to acknowledge those things seems... I don't know... not quite right. I keep a gratitude journal and every day I record at least 5 things I'm thankful for. It's an amazing tool that helps me to focus on what I have rather than what I'm missing... and that's the key, I think, to real happiness. There are some days I have to just re-write my 'fall-back list' (Ryan, Sundance, my friends, my family, my job), because some days, when sweetness and light is hidden behind a big dark cloud, it's hard to see all the blessings. But they're there... always. And the clouds always part, eventually, and the light shines through. And I might just be more grateful for that than anything.

But tonight I hope to be able to write in my journal, "I didn't have to be bailed out of jail for assaulting Lucifer and/or his minion with a turkey leg." Keep your fingers crossed.

if youre going to assault, may i suggest that you use something a bit heavier than a turkey leg. i mean, if youre gonna go to jail, may as well enjoy it. i think a baseball bat would be just fine.

I'm on a break. We did the traditional Thanksgiving hair dying, and she's upstairs washing it out. How funny is it that there are people out there reading their daily blogs just like it was any other day? Oh, 3:30, about time for you to be leaving. It's almost over. It's almost over!

I agree ... I think Thanksgiving is kind of a loser holiday in many ways. But it is a day off of work (unless you are a stay at home mom or a mom in general, then you never get a day off). Happy Thursday!

Good luck with thanksgiving. One for the journal will be
You are thankful this holiday is over.

Perhaps it would be wise to let someone else carve.

The gratitude journal is an excellent idea. Journals generally are an excellent idea.

It's funny how we create occasions to do things we should do regularly. Christmas, New Year, Thanksgiving...

Having said that I like doing my NY resolutions on April Fool's Day. It is close to my birthday but seems appropriate. A little voice behind my left ear says "You are fooling nobody".

I hope you had a good Tday regardless.... and to that I say, Happy Turkey Day :)

The gratitude journal is an awesome thing. I used to have one, but kinda... um... where is that thing, anyway? I blame my children. * for the record, I always blame my children. they make awesome scapegoats *

I love Tday because we have such great food. And because my kids always tell me a different variation of the pilgrims and the Native American story, and it's hilarious. I love it.

Off to read your other journal; by the title, sounds promising!
