It Sucks To Be Me...

There's a really brilliant Broadway musical called Avenue Q (pretty much Muppets for grown-ups), which I saw in London last year. One of the best numbers in it is a song called, It Sucks To Be Me. My friend Hugh and I have a 'sucks to be me' competition every now and then and had we done it tonight, I'm reasonably certain I would have won...

Ryan's teacher has this reward system in place wherein the kids get stickers for going above and beyond the call of duty in terms of behavior or citizenship. After they fill up a card, they get a prize. For her prize, Ryan always chooses to be teacher for the day (it plays to her significant bossy side). She was teacher just last week but she informed me tonight at dinner that she's already filled up another sticker card.

Me: Wow! What did you do to fill it up so quickly?
Ry: I've just been really good and today I cleaned up a big mess before Miss Masters asked.
Me: Hmmm... maybe I should give you stickers at home. Hey, for your prize you could be 'Mommy for the day'!
Ry: Good lord, NO! There's NO WAY I'd want your job!

Geez. It really must suck to be me. Sigh.

Think of it this way, you do such a great job she can't even imagine filling those shoes :)

Exactly what Amy said! ;)

So...ummm...the Girls Running thing was a massive undertaking huh? BAH. I'm not a fan of large undertaking let alone MASSIVE. Well, I guess I'll see what they have to say LOL

Well on the bright side at least she knows how hard your job is. *smiles*

And thanks for getting that song stuck in my head now. My first semester my friends introduced me to that musical with this line.

"What do you do...with a B. A. in English?" Bastards.

Well, perhaps you could use it as a punishment?

I think Lee is on to something there...lose enough points and you get to be Diane for a day! :)

It's way easier to be a daddy. You mommies have it rough.

Hopefully she will remember this when she hits the teenage years... and has a boyfriend... and shoot, it's too early to start scaring you about all that.
I think what doesn't suck is that somewhere in there is a sign that she appreciates you.

She see how hard you work and knows she couldn't do it any better

Diane, your kid is quick.:) No worries, one day her daughter will tell her this and then she will understand.:))

This made me laugh. :)
I don't think I'm ready to be "mommy" either, even if it is just for a day, and I'm waaaaay older than Ryan. The thought of anyone calling me Mommy is a little scary, actually. I'm sure one day it will be glorious, but for now, I'm with Ryan on this one!!

Funny!

On the Down Side: Kind of a blow to the ego

On the Up Side: At least she seems to realize what a difficult job being a mommy can be.

A related story from this past weekend: My husband built a really cool Lego tunnel for my 4-year-old son. My son said: "Daddy, you're amazing." My husband wanted him to tell me what he had said so he told my son: "Tell Mommy what you said." And my son replies: "But Mommy isn't amazing....she is cute though."

I get that ALL the time.

Today, I also got, "I want to look just like you, mom, but prettier."

Whatever.

Perhaps this will help. I gave you an award. You can pick it up at http://mrsfligs.blogspot.com/2008/11/id-like-to-thank-academy.html. I did this last night and forgot the most important part-- telling you about it!

Hah! That's great. It just means she realizes how much you do that she can't fill your amazing shoes! ;)
