Happy 2009! As I sat here last night, waving good-bye to 2008 (with my middle finger), I offered up a little prayer to the Universe that 2009 would be a better year… for the whole world, not just me (I’m not totally self-centered).
So… this morning I woke up to gloriously blue, sunny skies and big hugs from my little girl. I happily hiked around in the woods with my equally happy dog, which is one of my favorite things to do. I found a completely unexpected $25 in the pocket of my jeans when I was doing laundry (no clue how it got there). I made a huge pot of my fabulous chicken-veggie soup that’ll see us through the next couple of days. I spent a couple of hours browsing around the bookstore this evening, spending a gift-card I got for Christmas (and I bought 5 books, all of which sound great). My niece came over to spend the night and there were no 9-year-old arguments (miracles do happen). And they went to bed on time! And I’ve spent the rest of the evening reading wonderful blogs, written by bloggy friends who are incredibly talented and insightful and funny (yeah, I mean all of you… duh).
All in all, I’d say my 2009 started out pretty damned well. Hope yours did, too!

sounds like a lovely day and a perfect beginning to a new year - here's to more of the same!!!
Sounds lovely. If I bring some crusty bread and a bottle of wine, could I trade some for a bowl of soup?
The cow-baby says "thank you for making it chicken veggie soup and not beef veggie soup" followed by a bit wet lick. :))
Sounds like a good start to the year; made my heart a little warmer :)
Sounds like a terrific start to the new year. May you be blessed with many, many more wonderful days in 2009!
From your mouth to whatever higher power you believe in, buddyroo! I don't want to tempt fate by saying 2009 can't get any worse than 2008, but damn I sure hope it's better. Isn't it kind of weird that we've known each other so long and haven't ever spent a New Year's Eve together? I never thought about that until your comment. Well, at least you avoided the peripheral damage and the few times in my life that I've gotten drunk!! I'll talk to you next week - busy, busy week and I'm off to The Big D for Christmas Part 2 tomorrow.
HAPPY NEW YEAR
MAY THE GOD BLESS YOU FOR THE HAPPINESS AND SUCCESS YOU WISH

Sounds like a great start to 2009. Mum says can she have the recipe for that soup? She wants Uncle Hugh to make her some. Mum LOVES soups.
Good Start!
I think 2009 will be great! I wish you every good thing!
Hey, the wine, crusty bread and soup sound good!
Sounds like the perfect day to me!
What books did you get? Inquiring minds want to know!
"..I waved goodbye to 2008 (with my middle finger)..."
very clever.
I started 2009 with my pointer, "Do this, do that."
(Pointing out things for hubby to do, NOT ME!)
I made no resolutions, just decided to search for PEACE. In everything.
A PEACEFUL 2009 to ya'!
World peace is nice and all, but nothing beats $25 unexpected pocked dollars. Except new books.
Keep it going, lady. 1 day down, 364 to go!
diane, dont worry about using it up. theres more where all that came from.
have a good one.
:)
That's awesome! Sometimes it's nice to know the universe does care and aligns everything just right for us, no? ;)
Have a great Friday/weekend!!
Did Naval just spam the crap out of your comments? Naval, Diane said she's had a good start to the year. Don't ruin it.
Hey! Did you just call me a bitch?! LOL!!!
It gave me a good laugh - though it does fit my mood this morning!! GRAWRR!!!
I suppose if I thought about it, I could get all my comments in one box instead of taking up multiple ones...but that would require brain cells. Of which I have none this morning.
For the picture I used a tripod, a camera remote and layer masks in Photoshop ;) Feel free to ask for more details if you're interested...
What a great start to the new year! Your levity makes my day! I agree - 2008 deserves the middle finger; here's hoping 2009 gets the peace sign!
You remind me, I need to go do some laundry; thanks a hella lot! I did hear a nickle in the dryer yesterday...
I had a pair of those jeans. I called them my magic jeans. Money would just appear in the pockets....and they made my butt look good. Thats the real magic. Happy New Year.
Oh, wonderful! I love it the the kiddos go to bed without any fuss. What books did you get? 5 books is great.
How awesome... sounds like the perfect start to the year...
Big love to you my friend,
M
Hello,
Happy New Year Diane!!
You are now going on my blog roll....your too funny to me not to be somewhere close where i can just click and be here!!!
Thanks for that!!!
Sounds like a great start to the new year!! :)
What a wonderful start on a new year Diane. You know, in my culture there is a saying "As on New Years day, so for the rest of the year", which means that the 1st of January is representative of what your year is going to be like. And your 2009 looks like a winner year.;))
