Weekend Recap...

Well, it’s Sunday. Just in case you didn’t know. The weekend’s nearly over (how does that happen?!) so I figured I’d give you a recap (plus, I'm a little brain-dead at the moment and I've got nothing more interesting to say)…

The ski lesson went pretty well. It was cold as crap on Friday night, so I bundled Ryan up, squeezed her into her ski boots, and left her to brave the elements for nearly 2 hours. I settled myself in the lodge, near the window, with a Peppermint Patty (hot chocolate spiked with peppermint schnapps… it sounds nicer than it was, actually, which was too sweet). I needed it, though, after the trek through the rental building...

While we were waiting for the teenaged rental guy to calibrate Ryan’s ski bindings, I was telling her how my first job had been at the resort and I’d worked in the very building in which we were standing. The rental guy looked up and said, “Oh, when was that?” I replied, “About 27 years ago.” He looked at me and exclaimed, “Good God!” Then, realizing he might have just insulted me, he back-pedaled… “I mean, it’s just that you don’t look that old.” I snorted and said, “Yeah, nice save.” It was one of those lovely ‘ouch’ moments that happen when it dawns on you that just maybe you really do look your age.

I managed a photo or two from the deck of the lodge (I had to leave my drink inside, so I didn’t stand there long).

Ryan opted for no poles but after sliding backwards a few times, she’s decided she’s going to try them next week. She said she wasn’t cold at all but the big old snotcicle frozen to her face begged to differ. Regardless, she enjoyed it a lot and can’t wait for next Friday. So, good stuff.

Last night was dinner and a movie with The Republican. It was a really good time, actually... mostly because there was no political chat. We ate at this great Italian place and a few glasses of Merlot made everything rosy. Then we saw Last Chance Harvey, which was good… not as good as I’d expected, but good. So, it was a really nice, much needed night out. No complaints. And before you ask, no love mojo either. For all you (deluded) optimists who keep telling me ‘you just never know what can happen’… I do know. But friends are always good.

So that’s pretty much it. I’m off to read my man-book for my book club meeting a week Monday. I joined a club made up of mostly men (who knew they even read?! Hee hee… just kidding, boys). Anyway, the book is massive, non-fiction, and not exactly engrossing, so I’m struggling a bit. I’ve got a week to plow through it.

Hope you’ve all had a wonderful weekend!!

Hi Diane,
Ok i am going to ask this question because i am not sure which is better: a snotcicle frozen to your face OR your snot literally frozen inside your nose so that you cannot breathe???? Because that is what happenend to me when i was running my 10 miler. Not to worry, the snot defrosted once i started breathing heavy so all was well again. :O)

Also, Man Book?? What is this book you speak of?? I know man purse, man crush, man boobs, but man book???? I didn't know that such a thing existed!!! :O)

Love ya girlie!!! Hope your having a grand day!!! Try sleepy time tea!! Power of suggestion is a great thing!!!!

I'm that rental kid. One of the ladies I work with we joke back and forth but she'll be 51 this year and I always start our conversations with something along the lines of "Holy crap your old."

I called my mom old once and very quickly tacked on an eeeer. older.

Cool...Are you at Massanetta?
My kids have been there. Maybe I will see that movie then as I am a Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson fan!
What book are you reading?

I'm howling about the snotcicle. I thought I was over thinking that kind of stuff was funny... but I'm really not. Body functions still make me laugh!

Diane, is the man book place a place where you will be able to 'check out' the men? Just asking... ~ Glad you're back and both safely defrosted x

Friends ARE always good, even the "R" kind - but as you say, Merlot makes everything better. Good for you for surviving ski lessons with a little one. That brings me back to days of being a wee one attached to a rope, at the end of which was my dad, in a serious "snow plow." Yes, he's a cowboy, and he taught all six of us this way! Pretty funny.

Happy end of weekend to you! Good luck with your man-book and your man-club. :)

snotcicle...heh.

What man book? Tell me!

What's thebook called? You tell us details about snot-cicles but not the name of a man-book?

I too enjoyed the descriptive "snotsicle".

There are no manbooks around my house. Big Al has me read aloud to him in bed. Is he spoiled or what? Says he's not much of a reader, but likes to listen to me read. (L-A-Z-Y!) Loves the history channel, watches it 24/7, but if I bought a book on his favorite time in history, it would remain on the bedside table unless I read it aloud to him.

Yeah, he's still 3 years old!

Glad your weekend was a good one.

Sounds like a great weekend! I am a snot magnet! Hence, working with kids! Thanks for the heads-up on the movie!

I really like your quote ... about being responsive to change. Thank you for that.

As cute as a snotcicle may be, warm is the way to go, thank you kindly!

A Mom after my own heart; dress 'em up and send 'em out so you can watch from the safety of the sidelines. I would suggest Irish Coffee next time even if it's the dreaded decaf.
I'm currently 680 pages into Follett's newest. Whatcha readin'? Republican huh? Well at least he let you have more than one merlot and paid the bill. ;)

I had a beard once and when in Scotland my mouth froze shut as my condensation from my nose 'welded' all the hairs together. Not happy. Must have been a lizard in a previous life. Give me warmth.

Oh good, we've still got that "sister" thing goin' cos I'm on your site and while i'm typing your comment pops up on mine. Way to go... :)

I have NOTHING to say about snow :))

'Snotcicle' is so descriptive. I can just picture it. Ewwwwwwwww.

Snotcicle... that's a term worthy of Webster's (high on the eeeew factor). So glad the evening out was fun. A man book? Of course it's non-fiction (and boring) because if it isn't based on a true story, it's not worth telling.

I had to check in and see how the lessons and date went... wow, no disasters on either; you are two for two! Nice job!!! I have to say, you just have me laughing every time I read your posts. Thank you. And when I go to check up on you I get a great laugh whenever I see Embry O'Fetus. Have a great night!

Well, at least he didn't say, "Good God, shouldn't you be dead?" See? Silver linings everywhere ;)

I'm glad that you and The Republican can meet on neutral ground to be friends. AS wonderful and fulfilling as bloggy friends are, real-life friends are important too.

And thanks for worrying about me. :-) I did not set foot outside the cabin at all during the trip. I stayed inside with my hot cocoa (sans alcohol since it was a GS trip) ;-)

How cold IS crap, by the way?

So cute! Ry does look like that kid all bundled up from Christmas Story. Skiing is fun once you are out there. But man being cold is hard sometimes.

Good for you for joining a book club... of all men. Hm, I had the same thought as you. It will be fun though!

In any ways, glad to hear you had a good weekend, and I was laughing so much about the 27 years. LOL!
About your date; are you aware of the fact that the best relationships starts with someone we consider good friends.;) Just in case you did not know.;)))

It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. I might have to see that movie. I haven't been out much lately. I need a date night. Kevin's been at home puking his guts up for two days, and as I don't want whatever he has (or can't afford to get it, seeing as I have to go work a conference in Destin this week) I've opted to stay at my house. A safe hour away from his. So much for the "caring" girlfriend, huh? *Sigh* He's so lucky to have me. :)
