Good Morning... Pfffftttt!

I am not a morning person. At all. But this morning, I had to be one. I had to take my mom to the hospital for surgery. She had to be there at 9:00. The hospital is an hour away, in Charlottesville (we do have quite a nice hospital here in Pigsknuckle but this procedure had to be done at UVA). I also had to get Ryan to my brother’s house, 20 minutes away, in the opposite direction (so she’d have a ride to school and wouldn’t have to sit outside in the rain for 2 hours before the bell rang). The dog had to get to the park, too (so he wouldn’t explode while I was gone). To get all this done before leaving Pigsknuckle at 7:45, I had to get up at stupid o’clock (or 5:30, if we’re being specific).

As I said, I’m not a morning person. Five-thirty is morning. It’s very early in the morning. It’s too early in the morning. I don’t function well too early in the morning. To prove this point, here are some of the things my non-morning person self did this morning

1. Washed my hair with conditioner (because I was too bleary-eyed to read the bottles correctly... or at all). In case you were wondering, conditioner doesn’t get hair clean... quite the opposite, actually.

2. Brushed my hair... then threw my brush into the trash bin (I just noticed this 10 minutes ago... thank Heavens, as tomorrow is trash day and that brush is new).

3. Stepped outside, in the pouring rain, to put the dog on his lead… in my socks. Ick.

4. Poured water in my mug for tea… but neglected to include the teabag or sugar.

5. Made Ryan’s lunch… then put her lunchbox in the refrigerator. Luckily I saw it when I went to get the milk to pour in my hot water.

6. Wore my new running shoes to the park (in the rain)… so now they smell like my old running shoes… the ones I kept specifically to wear when it rains… because they smell… from getting wet… and I didn’t want my new shoes to smell the same way… which they now do.

7. Wore a Virginia Tech sweatshirt to the University of Virginia hospital, which I learned was a colossally stupid thing to do that last time I had to go over there (you’d think those people would be able to put college rivalry aside once they had an MD after their names, wouldn’t you?).

And now I’m going to take a nap.

Wow, Diane. I thought I had a hard time with mornings. Sheesh...
Glad you were able to save the brush. And on the positive side, I bet your hair was super-soft after all that conditioner.
Enjoy your nap. :)

oh my.

Enjoy your much needed nap. I'm not much of a morning person so i can relate to how you feel. Early to me is getting up before 10 a.m. LOL.

Dang!! What a bad morning.
I get up at 5 or earlier each morning. That is why I need a nap now!

I'm assuming all went well with your Mom, and yes I would say from now on, sleep in if at all possible.

Sorry I'm laughing (With you, not At you) but honestly, it sounds like things I do daily-morning noon and night.

Welcome to MY WORLD Diane...Scary, ain't it?

Now get some rest- and throw the sneakers in the dryer with a dryer sheet- and sterilize the brush-and put powder in your hair. That's all the stuff I do when I do these crazy things.

Snort!

Sounds like the story of my life....

Loved the bit about the shoes. I do the same thing, only with mowing the lawn. I always mean to put on my old ones (that I keep in the garage right next to the friggin' lawnmower so I don't forget) but then I mow in my "good" ones so they also have that light green lawn tinge to them.

Stupid is as stupid is, I always say.

I so commend you on getting up at 5:30am. I can understand why you did the things you did, but I have to admit I had a good giggle reading this. :)

I hope your mom is okay!

You totally kick my butt in the worst morning person game. I remember one time when I was sleep deprived and Jake was an infant, I changed his diaper 3 times in a 5 minute period. Why I didn't realize that the diapers weren't wet? BECAUSE IT WAS 0 dark thirty!

Hope the surgery went okay for your mom!

Wow! sweet water!Y'know, I used to pour sugar on my velveeta.
I was just trying to make my church happy, because they said I needed to find (uh-oh) Sweet Cheeses.

I can only assume that you put the cream in, stirred like normal, and, seeing the white, just figured it was too much cream
Which of course brings us to the question....
Did you find out before
or
after
you had a sip?

(I suppose the next time I say "uh-oh" I should just hand you something to swat me with, too?)

I'm only humored because where I used to be a non-morning person?

somewhere I got a camera and became a morning person to take pictures in the Dawn.
It actually became a Morning...

Quite wonderful.
Birds and soft warm breezes and what seemed to be continuous blloming of one thing or the other over the whole of Spring, Summer, and even Fall.

TThen again, this past Winter was so cold, I find myself under the covers cursing the Sun for rising without bringing any 80s with it.

Or coffee.

Found you by way of Annie K's blog. Nice to see some other Valley bloggers out in the virtual world!

Sorry about your morning. I've had to get up at five in the morning to go to work for the last three years. I never gets any better.

I love all of these morning blunders, and I totally sympathize with you, because I do most of these things every morning. EVERY FRIGGIN' MORNING.

Except this morning, rather than throw away my hairbrush (which I totally do sometimes, on days when I don't toss it in the laundry hamper), I brought it downstairs and it found its way into my briefcase. Not the end of the world, but strange. I think it's because I went there to find a band-aid for the triple-blade cut on my knuckle from when I reached into the drawer for toothpaste and grabbed Brian's razor. :)

Ok, I'm laughing (not at your mom), but because Univ. of Oregon and Oregon State are such rivals, and my daughters boyfriend went to a baseball camp at UofO and wore all of his OSU stuff to it. Needless to say, he was picked on the most! I get up at 4:45am. I am not a night person.

And they say opposites attract!

Glad you survived and the nap worked its magic. Good thoughts to your Mom, too.

I'm not about the mornings either. Unfortunately, one week in three, I have to get up at 4:45 a.m. to get to work by 6:00. When you're not a morning person and most of your working day IS morning, well, it's not overly fun a lot of time (except for the days when early morning hysteria sets in)...

5:45 is my waking time. That means I'll give you fifteen minutes' worth of sympathy.

I used to get up at 5 every morning for work and actually you get used to it, its a nice time of the day. ♡

Now I get up at around 6.30 I'm less organised and things like you have just described happen to me because I'm runnning late...have done the conditioner thing, shoes that dont match, put the coffee in the fridge and milk in the pantry...you are not alone. ♡

Reading this is so comforting as I have just had a morning from hell; everything has gone wrong at home and at work; crises after crises. Already when I woke up I was in a bad mood; some days are just cursed, I say.
Your post though was one good thing that I stumbled upon today.;)
Sorry to hear about your mom, hope she is ok.;)

Pretty sad. Maybe on mornings when you have to get up really early, you should just stay up all night? That said, naps are great. Hope Mum's OK...

And Diane, I'd be that sis of yours so sleep-deprived from taking the other half to the airport at 4 in the morning that I left my purse (wallet) containing around $40 on the kitchen countertop in the office...

Thank the goddess that someone honest found it and advertised it had been found - It was over three hours later that I realised I had done this, once I read the notice she had posted on the tea cupboard! There is no hope for us, you do realise?

Hope all is well with your mom - All the best of my love to you all xxx

I can SYMpathize but not EMPathize. I happen to be a morning person. However, after 1:00 pm, I become a blithering idiot. Maybe we can figure out a way to get together and become an efficient, thing-doing machine.

Oh I hear you. Just ask me about peeing (on the toity) THROUGH my underwear one time when I was up at stupid o'clock. Yeah, that is another one of those things I should never admit. Oh well, there you have it. I hope it makes you feel like your tea sans tea or sugar is not quite so bad. ;)

1. I'm barely getting to sleep around then a lot of the time.
2. Conditioner/Shampoo conundrum: many brands have the conditioner bottle upside down now so you can tell them apart more easily. Look into it.
3. I don't know for sure that all of that was morning-induced. hee
