One Fish, Two Fish...

Ryan and I went to the pool today. We try to go fairly often, as it's the only exercise that doesn't make me groan or limp the next day, and she needs to keep fit for the summer swim team.

My kid's a fish. Always has been. I love the water and I wanted to make sure she loved it as well, so I've had her in it - and under it - since she was just an infant. When we lived in Charlotte, we used to go the YMCA several times a week in the winter...

Here she is shortly after arriving at the pool one afternoon (she was about 4 here)...

Doesn't she look happy? She still looks that way when we get to the pool.
Here she is that same afternoon... after I made her get out of the water...

I know. It made me laugh, too (which seriously pissed off my little fish).

And here she is at one of her meets last summer...

Recognize that happy face? That's my little fish!

I see PETA, the animal rights folk, want to call small fish 'sea kittens' to make them seem more cute and cuddly. A waste of time with your little fish.

awwwww. She's adorable.

I had to take swimming in 10th grade and I cried when the gym teacher told me to dunk my head in the water. Fortunately, I had a boy's gym teacher for swimming! haha

Don't those old photos just make you want to cry? Or celebrate...depending on the mood ;)

I thought we were always supposed to laugh at our kids when they made faces like that. Hmm...lucky I have your guidance.

Ryan is sooo ADORABLE. Honestly, I envy you a kid like that.;) In a good way, of course.;))
You told me once that she was a perfect baby. And I think she is a perfect girl and will one day be a perfect woman.;))

About eighteen months ago I bought a treadmill so I could exercise at home and lose a little weight. After a couple of weeks I could hardly walk although I did lose a couple of pounds. My knees were screwed though. I needed help just getting out of the car.

Swimming is great and doesn't result in a few thousand dollars of knee surgery, so think you're definitely doing the right thing.

The really good thing about swimming baths is that you don't have to worry about rip currents or tiger sharks!

Great stuff, glad that your daughter has been encouraged at an early age. I found it tough to learn swimming when I was little. But once I got the hang of it I had such a great time with my mates!
Well done swimming is such fun.

Diane, you are teaching her a skill which will remain with her for the rest of her life, and which in turn she will pass on to her loved ones -

How cool is that as a legacy? There is nothing, nothing, better than growing from a little fish into a big fish, oh and swimming, especially in the outdoors under the open skies!

I love the fact you are both swimming together even though you could be catching a coffee and chit chat. In the moment and celebrating each and every single one you can with her is priceless.

Dianabelle (yep, I went over to Mel's), you will be so sorry if that lovely little girl grows a fishtail and scales all over her body. Sweetheart, you have the nerve to beg for comments when you are netting them in like they are shrimps? I have only ever once surpassed 20 comments (from nearly 400 posts) and that was a 23 just last week. You are a gweedy gurl, but I like you! x

Very sweet little fish. Too bad they have to grow up! I never did graduate out of the "starfish" group. I think I even failed my "beaver dive" (sitting in a squat position on the side of the pool to minimize the diving distance). So hurray for fishes, one of which I AM NOT! :) Good job - you seem to be doing all the right things with your little one!

I hope you don't make 'your little fish' live in a small glass bowl on top of the bookcase! ;-)

I love how my nephew never wants to get out of the water. He'll be shivvering and his lips are blue and he's pruned all up, still wants to stay in.

I love the water. however I'm more of a log then a fish i think.
