One Person...

I do believe one person can make a difference. Barack Obama already has. He has given people hope. And hope is big. But it isn’t enough, is it?

I’m cheering today, along with much of the world, but my optimism is tempered with concern. My hope is that this man – this good man – can deliver on his promises; that he can lead us; that he can bring us all together and somehow make it work.

One person can make a difference and I do believe this man is going to try. I believe he’s going to do his best. I just hope his best is good enough.

It is a bit scary to put all your hope in one man....

But, I do hope he tries.

We have similar hopes as you may have read my post on Obama.

This man doesnt have a magic wand, I feel that the world is expecting more than is possible.

I, too, share your hopes. I know President Obama will not be able to solve all of our problems, but at least he will try to help those who aren't rich or own oil companies. He is intelligent, hard working, thoughtful, well-read, well-spoken and has surrounded himself with smart people. I'm sure he will improve the way those in other countries see us. Having a father from Africa and having lived in Indonesia, he has a more global point of view than someone who has lived in the U.S. his entire life. And, he can put a complete sentence together, too. That alone will be a great improvement.

Diane, the weight of a woman's expectations can end up killing a man. I don't envy him with all the expectations of all those women. x

CJ's comment parallels my thoughts. I think he's an amazing individual who will do much to improve the image of our country abroad. He's a man of integrity who leads by example. I hope he can bring about the change that is so sorely needed, but he's been handed a very heavy, very full plate. God bless him.

I think it is important for Obama to be a catalyst for change, rather than people expecting him to be the whole change.

I am as excited as the next man, woman or child, about Obama's potential, however, he has been elevated onto such a high pedestal by so many's hopes and by his enthralling rhetoric, it will be almost impossible for him to fulfil everyone's dreams for true and tangible change...

And this is politics, not fiction - There may not be a "Happy ever after..." ending.

"To err is human..."

I think we're all going to have to be a part of this. We can't sit back and expect miracles, we have to work for it, too.

Me too. I think it will be an 'all hands on deck' rather than a case of sitting back and watching him row.

At least he is not lumbered with a hard act to follow!

Mum & me can't add anything. Only echo what everyone else has said. But at least with Obama you do have hope - which as you say is big. HUGE in fact. Without it, life's a bummer. xxx

for 8 long years there has been no hope - no chance of any semblance of normalcy. obama -- while far from perfect - does bring hope, something we need more than anything

goodbye mr bush, may the door of life constantly hit you in the ass

Oh same here from the Far East. Sometimes I think it's too much to hope from one guy..I just hope he won't fail us.

Happy inauguration Diane and all of America.;)
Even we here in Europe are excited about the change.;)

All... I definitely do NOT thing this is a one-man effort. I just hope this one man can do what he's said... and that he can unite the parties and the country (enough) to work together. I absolutely believe it will take the efforts of many to pull us out of the mess we're in.

One man can make a difference but a million can truly get things done.

Even though it's snowy here, everyone seems to be in high spirits like there is a kind of nervous excitement in the air. I am looking forward to 4 years, I'm realistic enough to know that they won't be easy on any of us in the least.

But the important thing is that we have hope.

Love you Diane...One person can make a difference...I can feel the difference already!
It is like a stone being thrown into a pond...the ripples keep moving outwards! It is a beautiful day!

He has already had a flying start, but any sensible person would not expect miracles. He has given people hope, someone to believe in, who just might achieve something fantastic. The mere fact that he has been elected says a lot about how far the US has moved on in the last 40 years or so. Every time I see on TV those water hoses and batons used against innocent people, I am shocked, but remember that that is how it actually was! It will be a tremendous event in US and world history later today. And let's face it, he cannot do much worse than Dubbya! Good luck to him.

Hope is a profound thing. That he has brought most of America that is certainly a step in the right direction. While he is one man, there are the rest of us. If it only takes one person to make a difference, think about what many can do.

Like everyone else, I hope Obama proves to be the catalyst for change that he has claimed to be. Painting a pretty picture with eloquent words is one thing, but making them happen is quite another. I believe he has hard work ahead of him, but if he is, indeed, as good of a man as everyone thinks, he should be able to accomplish some great things.

i sure hope de does what he said. i sure hope he doesn't spend the next four years doing everything he can just to be elected again. i hope he does some stuff that upsets congress and everyone to help us out.

I think Obama's best will be infinitely better than the best or worst of the other guy!!! It just has to be right????

This man has America believing again!!! Thats a start isn't it???

Pauline said...

if we leave it all up to him, all the hope in the world won't help us but if we ask how we can help, and then do it, hope will be the fuel for our work

His first act should be to abolish the media. They, pack animals that they are, will be looking for any sniff of blood. I hate them with a passion.
