TGIF...

It’s Friday. Yeah, I have a knack for stating the obvious, I know. It’s also cold. Again with the obvious. It was minus 2 degrees this morning. For those of you in places which use the more modern method of determining temperature (i.e. nearly everywhere else in the world), that would be minus 19 degrees. Yes. Brrrrr. With the wind chill factor in play, it’s about minus 15 (-26) right now. When I took Sundance to the park this morning, he pooped ice cubes. That, my friends, is cold.

Tonight is Ryan’s first ski lesson. I called to see if they were still on, given that it’s about 10 degrees colder on the mountain and they will have the snow blowers going. Yup. They’re on. The girl on the phone (helpfully) told me to dress Ryan “for the weather.” She clearly has a knack for stating the obvious, too. I expect Ryan will look very much like the little brother in A Christmas Story. You know the scenes where he can’t put his arms down and then he falls in the snow and can’t get up because he’s all puffy with his snowsuit on? Yeah, that’ll be my kid tonight. I really hope she doesn’t fall down. She’ll be like a big turtle. Actually, she doesn’t feel the cold so much (I’m always hollering at her to zip her jacket or put her hat or her shoes on), but I think at 20 below, I might hear a little whining. Of course, that will likely be coming from me. Thank God they sell booze in the lodge… where I will be immediately after getting her dumped into her ski gear. I might take a photo or two. From inside. If the window isn’t all steamed up. And I can hold the camera and my glass of wine at the same time.

So, tomorrow is Saturday. Which makes sense, I guess, since I already said today is Friday. Anyway, I’m going out tomorrow night. With The Republican. But it’s just a 'friends' thing and not a date. Really. We’ve agreed that although we like each other, we hate each other’s politics and we disagree (vehemently) on some pretty serious issues (plus, I’m just not feelin’ the love mojo, you know?). However, I have discovered lately that not all Republicans are right-wing, fundamentalist, evangelical, gun-totin’, Bush-quotin’ (who said I wasn’t a poet?!), scary, scary people. Some of them are nice folk who happen to be misguided. Hee hee. Just kidding, Sherri! Sherri (if you don’t read her blog, DO! She’s fabulous!) is actually my kind of Republican. God, I never thought I’d say those words. But it’s true. And her husband, Big Al, is yummy, too. He laughs at my jokes and thinks he loves me. Figures, doesn’t it? The only guy who’s loved me in ages is married and a Republican. Story of my life. Sigh.

Anyway, that’ll be my weekend. Hopefully I won’t turn into an icicle tonight or implode from keeping my liberal opinions to myself during dinner tomorrow night. I hope all of you have a fantastic weekend, too!!

being friends w/ a republican isn't so bad; i married one : ) and though we disagree on things, i still love him. and, he's a smart ass and he loves pushing my ultra-liberal friends' buttons and they all agree to disagree. there are bigger things in life---like ski lessons : )

Have a wonderful weekend :)

I think I'd be in the lodge with you and the booze. I don't do extreme cold, makes me cranky.

Good grief, and I thought it was cold here!!! I would never make it. I'd dress like a poofy turtle all the time. All you'd ever see of me would be my eyes, and I might cover those with goggles to keep my eye balls freezing solid!! :) I think I'd be drinking a lot of Irish coffee.
Have fun on your non-date tomorrow!

Having a drink in the Lodge tonight and tomorrow with a republican sounds like fun!;))
Have a really nice weekend Diane, I am sure I speak for all of us (your followers) when I say I look forward to your very entertaining updates on how it all went.;))

Diane, hope you have a fabulous weekend and that you get plenty of compromising and embarrassing pics of Ryan for bribery purposes later!

I like the idea of warming wine in the lodge, too! Be careful on your date and don't ever hold back on your wonderful opinions? Fx

Have fun with your republican!! We get to host the Sinister Bush here on Tuesday. I'm thinking it is banner time. Something like "Buck Fush" or "W is for war criminal!"

I'd rather be taking ski lessons.....with my kids....while dreaming of dancing bananas.......and having a Guinness.

And take photos of Ryan skiing!!! You stay warm! Drink and be merry!!!

Happy Friday!!!

It seriously NOT a date, folks (believe me, I wish it was). Nope... none of that elusive chemistry at play for me... and too many out-of-synch core values. But he is a nice guy and though I wouldn't want to spend the rest of my life with him, I enjoy his company enough for dinner and a movie every now and then :)

Pretty bad when you have to get all "boozed up " just to spend some time with a Republican!
Are we really that bad?

And for the record, keep your Butt away from my Big Al! You liberal girls make him CRAZY!

Enjoy your weekend.
ANd if you should be getting cozy with the Republican, but yell out Big AL's name...I will find about it! People talk.

Sherri...

1. I'm getting boozed up to handle the COLD.
2. Yes, some of you really ARE that bad (not you, though... I lurve you! And Big Al... just sayin').
3. I told you, I don't do other women's husbands. Even really cute ones. Like Big Al. Who is really cute. Have I mentioned that Big Al is really cute? He is. But he's still married. Sigh.
4. I WON'T be getting cozy with the Republican. That's what no love mojo means. Silly woman.
5. What if I did call out Big Al's name? What... do all Republicans know each other?! I KNEW IT!
6. You have a good weekend, too. And give Big Al my love ;)

Oh my, I'm not sure which to comment about first.... the ski lesson or the Republican.

The ski lesson... I hope you are going somewhere that you can relax with that wine. We took my son to Eldora because it was close to our house (only 45 min to get there) and... wait? That was the only reason. So, when we got there we set him all up for his lesson and then went off looking for "the lodge". Ummm, not exactly what I was expecting. It was more like a gym locker, with drunks. Smelly socks and all. But, back to you! Enjoy yourself!

The republican... wow, that's a tough one. I know it can happen (two meet from opposing sides, and fall in love) but really? Notsomuch. And if your anything like me, I'm too liberal for even the democrats usually. So, you can still enjoy him and try to make sense of what he's saying. Consider it a case study!

lol....!

I guess we were on the same wavelength this morning with the TGIF. Great minds...!
Don't be too hard on the ski lady, I have seen firsthand what some parents think is 'dressing for the weather'.
Okay, I have nothing witty to say so - have a great weekend, Republican and all.

It's only 20 degrees here today! When there's no snow, it shouldn't ever be this cold! Of course if there was snow, I'd be dealing with all the crazy folks trying to drive in it, so that wouldn't work either. And, I'm getting the flu, so blah!

I hope Ryan has a good time skiing tonight despite the cold!

I took ski lessons once when I was little but I cried and swore I'd never do it again. Weird considering I lived in Utah my whole life!

Hope you get some good shots...don't spill that wine on your camera ;)

Have fun tonight and tell Ryan to beware of frostbite!! And thanks for all your kind comments.

Stay cool. Keep warm.

Booze will fix everything. Tell Ryan to stay away from those inner tubes and all should be fine.

Nice mastery of the obvious, by the way ;)

Republican or not..if he's a nice company, why run away?
Do take as many pics as you can of the skiing lesson? Skiing to my kids are like meeting fairies in Neverland..

This post is GOLD! Keep it up, Ms Diane! I think I cracked a rib from laughing!

See I send all the kids skiing with dad on Saturdays but that has more to do with me having a day to myself.

Gosh. I dunno; cold and a republican. I imagine that by July, things will be looking up - or are things pretty humid by then in your parts?

Good luck with the rest of Winter!

Stinking Billy said...

Diane, if Big Al, who has seen you in the flesh (as it were) loves you, that seals it for me. Add me to that short list, please? x

Ski lessons? Wow, she's one brave pup. Mum had one once and was a real wuss. Never again, she said. But kids are fearless aren't they? Hope you enjoy yourself tonight with the Republican. Mum says, "Just have fun and think of it the same as going out with a girlfriend - it's not as if you have to have his babies"

Just don't mention Obama. And tomorrow, I believe, is Sunday.

oh, sounds fun! Some lively debate can be great foreplay you know!

Make the republican pay for everything - I don't care if you are just friends.

I hope Ryan had a good time being dressed up like a bloated tick and pushed down a hill with sticks on her feet. I think it sounds like a blast!

Sherri Murphy said...

I hope you're behaving yourself.

And yes, Every Republican knows each other. We all twitter each other obsessively.

Once you "sign up", they connect you-for life.

There's no escaping either...they have guns!

My hubby gave me his own brand of ski lesson. Took me down the bunny hill twice, said, "You got it." Took me up to the OMG big hill.

They, ski patrol, took me back down the OMG big hill on the little sled thing after my knee went the wrong way without me. Yes, I still love him. And he is cute too, and not a Republican.
