Here's to the Road Ahead...

Thanks, bloggy buddies (and real-life buddies, too) for your words of wisdom yesterday. I got lots of really good stuff in the form of a figurative crowbar. And I got lots of invitations to come visit people, too, which is just so cool! Well, for me, anyway... you guys apparently have some issues as well, if you want a neurotic, down-in-the-dumps, self-proclaimed failure staying under your roof!

Kidding!

I'm not really neurotic.

OK, I'm not a failure either, I know. Well, at some things I am. But I'm getting it into perspective, I swear. And as for down-in-the-dumps, I'm not that far down, really. The whack on the ass with the crowbar yesterday helped move me back up, closer to the top of the garbage heap.

You guys had some terrific suggestions, several of which were things I already know I should be doing (like the 'appreciate the little things... focus on the positive... be grateful for what you've got' stuff). And I really do those things, though admittedly, not to the degree I should. I think lots of us are guilty of that (have you noticed that I refuse to be alone in this?!).

And while I appreciate the sentiment behind the 'just do nothing and let things happen' advice, I can't subscribe to that particular way of doing things. Why? Well, because that's what I've been doing forever... and it ain't working for me, people! I clearly need to do. And the thing is, I know what I need to do. Well, for the most part. I'm still trying to figure out a few things.

I think the best bit of wisdom I heard yesterday (for my situation anyway) was to simply 'stop thinking and just get on with it' (not sure if it was worded exactly that way, but that's how I took it). It was best for me because, truth be told, it's what I've been telling myself to do for a while. I don't listen to myself all that often, though, unless, of course, I'm telling myself something terrible about myself. Then I'm all ears! I am my own worst enemy... no doubt about it. But I'm working on it. I promise.

So, here's to the road ahead...

... to not thinking and just getting on with it...

... to looking ahead...

... to leaving the crap behind...

... to new views and outlooks...

... to just enjoying the journey...

PS... sorry it's taking me so long to get 'round to everyone the past couple of days. I'm struggling to keep up with all the words you people are spewing forth... slow down, will ya?! XOXO

Just remember to make a final because we're not stopping on the way.
What? You didn't need road trip advice?
S'all I got.

Shoot, I must be too late with my words of wisdom, which are the same for every problem and always make me feel better: drink more, write more, sleep more.

But then again, I love Alice In Wonderland for the vile piece of crap that it is.

Man, I really think I'd opt for the dirt road in the rear view mirror, you know, rather than seeing my screaming kid throwing Cheetoh's and spilling his sippy cup.

Eh, we choose our battles! Here's to your new walk in life! YAY!

It can be done but I know what it's like to keep churning things over. In 2004, I left a long term relationship and gave up my home and in 2006, I gave up my job and went off to make a film - both reasonably terrifying at the time and both the best decisions I've ever made. Took me a while to get that point of actually doing it though so I know what you mean!

You go, girl! I happen to know that there's nothing you can't do - nothing at all!

Where's my outline?

Oh, and I love you.

And if your road brings you in the general direction of Illinois, you can stay here... or I'll meet you somewhere... or whatever.

Ah, I think you gave yourself the best advice yet.;))
I always lament and complain, while P usually just says " One just has to get on with it". I think that is his mantra.;))
I love the way your road looks, it is inviting and clear.;))

...Hit the road, Diane, and don't you come back, no more, noooo...

What am I singing?

Sometimes all it takes is a few little shoves to get us moving in the right direction, Diane... Can I have a couple of days to get back to you properly, my treasure, as I am out of town tomorrow, and having to retire early tonight - More's the pity, and I so miss being here and catching up, as you say - Our friends are posting serially, it's very hard to keep up...

Life is pretty tough - It's hard to try to be our best all of the time, or even 60%. Achievement isn't everything it's sometimes cut out to be, particularly if you've got to trample on others to get up on the pedestal (I don't do that, can you tell?)...

Happiness, even in very short bursts, is often enough - I think it's impossible to be happy all of the time - If I find a person who is, I do think that they're deluding themselves, or else are indepently wealthy!

Congrats on feeling the pats on the back and pushes in the right direction - What's always important is that you be you, and Ryan's fab mom - And both of those are for life... Isn't it fabulous! Love and hugs x

I'd say you are doing a great job at the most important thing, Ryan.

As for the rest, I find that just doing the damn day in front of me is more than enough without worrying about next week. Sometimes its all we can do.

If you have a dream.....just go for it.

Good luck with the whole, "Just do it" thing. :)
If you're really hitting the road, may I suggest a road trip to south Alabama??

"Stop thinking and just get on with it" is pretty sage advice in a lot of instances, but always hard to follow. Well, for me, anyway. We can get in our own ways a lot of times and not even realize it. By recognizing it, you're already ahead in moving forward.

Also: you should read my blog today.
