Holding My Tongue...

Today, I wanted (badly) to drop the F-bomb...

... on my mother.

But I didn't do it (difficult though it was to hold my tongue).

Instead, I did this with my tongue...

Behind her back.

Because my internal censor, quite unlike hers, isn't broken (and by 'broken', I mean 'seemingly shattered beyond repair').

Grrrrr...

Were our mothers hanging out today or what? And, seriously, at what age do they figure out it's okay to tell us anything and everything regardless of how offensive it may be (hell yes, my thighs may be as big around as tree trunks this summer, but I don't need YOU telling me that!!!)?

I wonder why she gets offended when I ask her if the senility is kicking in ... it's the only way I can figure that she has the marbles to insult people so casually.

Wow, I'm really uglying up your comments section with the mommy daughter tiff today.

Forgive the ugliness. :-)

Maybe you should just say it and get it over and done? :)

'Cause you totally know I wouldn't say that to my mother, but I have no problem at all suggesting that you should say it to yours. And I'm sorry she made you want to say that. And I totally understand.

And maybe you should give her that Mylanta now? :)

XOXO

My mom has this problem as well. She says the rawest things sometimes and I swear I want to scream!

I've said it to my mother. It feels good (and awful) -- both at once!

But I use my filter more often than not!

Since you didn't say it to your mom, I'm glad you are telling us and getting out, at least in this small way.

LOVE. LOVE. MORE LOVE.

Well, that gave me a giggle on an otherwise giggle free night!

What I do is bite a hole through my tongue...

Love that F-bomb graphic.

Gotta take the good with the bad....and that goes both ways. I had to buy one of my brothers a hundred dollar shirt as a "I'm sorry for punching you in your mouth" gift (but it was so very therapuetic). I would never punch my mother though. The "f" bomb....maybe.....depending, of course, on what was said.

Good choice Diane, good choice.
The bear pic made me smile. Then picturing you doing it, made me giggle.
I love Stu's comment.

Oh dear... I've done that a few times myself. (Mama, if you're reading this, it was never to you. Ever. Really...)

I don't see my Mother very often, but we talk on the phone daily and many times, I'm very grateful for that so she doesn't see me slumped in the chair rolling my eyes.

What? Does it think it's a Timex?

I was thinking you have a great idea here, gal.
Print and send her the picture of the bear. (anonymously, that is)

Sounds like a great idea all around!
(You're a good girl, Diane)

Good for you! I could never swear at my mother. EVER. I just think that as they get older, they are harder to deal with, but they deserve all the respect in the world for raising us, so I could never do it.

But sometimes I wanna...

I'm so glad I'm not the only one whose mother drives her crazy. So many people tell me, that their mothers are their best friends. Yikes! I never thought of my mother as a "friend." She was a difficult person when she was younger. Then she got worse. Now that she has dementia, she is impossible. I know it's not her fault, but it still drives me nuts. I usually roll my eyes and shake my head behind her back. I guess a part of me worries that that will be me in about 30 years.

You get an AWARD for that! That is a tough thing to do. but I like the tongue. Because you have to do SOMETHING! I know it.

Good for you taking the high road. You get the HIGH ROAD AWARD. I need to make this an official award. Don't steal it. I will go make you one.

This is a very cool, and telling, and calm, and typical, I love my mother but sometimes I struggle to to like her kind-of, posting...

Been there, and am full of sympathy... Would suggest you continue to do the Polar Bear thing, and try to hold it in behind your tongue, because to be fair, they are so far gone in terms of experience, that they can never (it seems to me...) pick up on our nuances, or understand properly where we are coming from in life...

Bonne chance, mon amie, Diane! xxooxx
