How the Light Gets In

I have felt broken many times in my life. At times, I've felt broken beyond repair... so broken that I was certain nothing I could do would ever make me whole again.

But I always heal.

Always.

My spirit, my body, my soul -- they are all resilient...

And scarred.

And for a long, long time, I believed those scars were ugly.

Then I learned about the Japanese art of Kintsukuroi...

... and I fell in love with the idea that a thing which is broken and repaired can actually be more beautiful than the original, unbroken thing.

There are times, though, when the repair seems just too difficult...

It's then that I remember Leonard Cohen's words...

Ring the bells that still can ring
Forget your perfect offering
There is a crack in everything
That's how the light gets in

In the end, whether it's the gold or the light we see, we must remember that while there will always be pain in Life, there is also beauty in the aftermath of pain.

And that's what makes it all worth it...

Isn't it?
